How To Get Big Arms
Imagine how great it would feel if you were wearing a t-shirt and your arms were sticking out like tree trunks? You’d definitely get the attention you’ve always dreamed of.
Maybe using the word “tree trunks” might be a little too much for you. Maybe you just wanted nicely chiseled arms where people can look at you and see just how fit you really are. Whatever the case may be, you’re going to learn a few things you need to start doing if you ever want to see your arms grow. Before you know it, you’ll know how to get big arms fast.
The first thing you need to understand is that having big arms is relative to your body weight. You may see people that look like they have 18-inch biceps but in reality, they might only be 15 inches. The reason there are arms might look so big is due to such a low body fat percentage. If a person is in the single digits there arms are going to look bigger and more cut than someone that has double digit body fat.
How tall someone is also is going to make a difference. Someone who is 6’4″ is going to have to have bigger arms than someone who is 5’4″ to have the same effect. When you’re that tall your mass is stretched and it is harder to build your muscles for certain areas like your legs, biceps, and triceps. This doesn’t mean it’s impossible, it just means you might have to work harder and it will take longer if you’re tall. Just look around the NBA and NFL and there are plenty of tall players with great arms so you don’t have any excuses.
Bigger Arm Workouts
There is a little known saying amongst the bodybuilding crowd that it takes roughly 15 pounds of overall mass through your whole body to put an inch on your arms. While this depends on genetics, your body height, and other factors, it is a good point to go by for some people. Of course it doesn’t guarantee that that inch will be solid muscle either. The fact is that you’ll have more overall mass on your arms as a results.
Now we’re going to talk about how to get big arms. There are a few arm workouts you can do to see success. While everyone might have a different philosophy on how often you need to work out or what exercises you need to do, most can agree that the simple “standing barbell curl” is a great exercise. This curl is the standard curl that you see a lot of people doing at the gym. While it might seem simple, it’s a guaranteed bicep builder.
Another exercise that many people swear by to get bigger arms is the preacher curl. The preacher curl is where you places your arms on a pad that has an angle on it. You then sit down on the seat. By sitting down you won’t have the ability to swing your back when lifting a weight. This makes it so everything you do is solely the work of your biceps. A lot of people also use a cambered bar to do this exercise instead of a straight bar. Try and mix up your sets and reps when doing your biceps. Many experts agree that you need high reps and low sets like 4×8 or 3×12 to work your biceps. However, mix it up with something heavier like 4×6 or 5×5 to keep your arms guessing.
Another key on how to get big arms is to not forget about your triceps. Most people fail to realize that your tricep is roughly 75% of your overall arm size. This is why it’s extremely important to do arm workouts that also involve the triceps. A great exercise is to do weighted bar dips. This is where you attach a belt around your waist that has a chain dangling from it. Then you attach the weigh to the chain. You then get on the dip machine and lower yourself until your arms are parallel to the floor. Then you raise yourself back up. You’ll find this to be one of the best tricep exercises for overall size and mass.
Another tricep exercise is the rope extension. You can also do tricep pushdowns but I find that the rope extension gives my triceps more of a burn. You can do high reps such as 12-13 for this exercise because you won’t be using as much weight so your arms won’t get fatigued quite as quickly.
Keep a volume similar to that which you would do with your biceps. You can also work your biceps and triceps together on a day which is known as “Arms Day”. This way you can focus solely on growing your arm workouts during this time. While this isn’t everything you need on how to get big arms, you’ll find that this is a great place to get started. Before you know it, you arms will start to grow.
